Wiener Linien is adjusting the rules for cancelling the annual pass from next year.
From January 1, 2025, the cancellation policy for Wiener Linien’s annual pass will closely align with the existing cancellation policy for the Austrian Climate Ticket (KTÖ).
Cancellation of the Wiener Linien annual travelcard: what’s changing
Annual travel cards whose validity period starts from 01.01.2025 can only be terminated regularly (i.e., “properly”) after seven months without giving reasons. An additional monthly fee (“fare replacement service” by fare regulations) will be charged in the event of termination. This monthly fee is one-twelfth of the tariff valid for the annual pass contract at the time of termination. This provision applies to all yearly passes, regardless of whether it is an initial issue or an extension of an existing annual pass.
Extraordinary termination before the end of the seven-month period is only permitted in special and important circumstances with appropriate supporting documents, which are as follows:
* Relocation to a place of residence outside the area of validity of the annual pass
* Unemployment
* Death of the annual pass holder
* Loss of third-party payers (e.g. if the company has paid for the ticket)
Change to an equivalent product such as KlimaTicket Austria, VOR KlimaTicket MetropolRegion, or VOR annual route ticket.
The annual ticket must be returned to the information or ticket offices or sent by post with an informal letter of termination. As a rule, customers must cancel their digital annual travel card at the WienMobil ticket store. One-time payers will be refunded the amounts paid in advance for the remaining months of the contract after termination and will pay the additional monthly amount. Customers with a direct debit authorization will discontinue this after termination and pay an additional monthly amount.
