From 27 December to 6 January, the “Three Wise Men” will be out and about throughout Austria to bring the Christmas message of peace and blessings for 2025. The children also sing and collect to free people from poverty and exploitation for a better world. “We are already highly motivated,” said the carol singers from the parish of Leopoldau. The Epiphany Campaign, the aid organization of the Catholic Children’s Movement (Katholische Jungschar), supports around 500 aid projects in poor regions of the world with donations.
540 million euros in donations already collected
Since the Katholische Jungschar breathed new life into carol singing in 1954, children and young people have collected an incredible 540 million euros in donations. Around 22,000 children and young people in Lower Austria, with the support of 30,000 adults, are committed to a dignified life in the Global South—with food security and clean drinking water, school education and care for street children, and protection of human rights and nature. The focus of Sternsingen 2025 is on child protection and education for young people in Nepal.
It is unique that children and young people keep traditional customs alive and spread the blessing throughout the country. On the other hand, their donation marathon enables concrete “help for self-help.” Pope Francis also acknowledges this great effort: “The children become advocates for the poor and needy in Africa, Asia, and Latin America and ask for financial help to alleviate the suffering of these people.”
