A perfidious scam: criminals pretend to be PayPal employees and try to gain access to victims’ data and devices. Now, a bank is also issuing a warning.
Fraudulent calls from alleged “PayPal” employees are currently on the increase. The savings bank is sounding the alarm and warning customers about this perfidious scam.
The fraudsters claim that there are suspicious debits on the victim’s PayPal account. The bank explains that customers are being asked to help block these transactions. But beware: the fraudsters only want to gain access to bank details and devices.
The savings bank advises: Always be vigilant and, if in doubt, end the call immediately. In addition, strangers should never be given access to their own devices.
The Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK) also warns of a new wave of scams. Criminals are pretending to be ÖGK employees by telephone or e-mail and demanding personal data such as bank details.
ÖGK urgently advises people to ignore such requests and not disclose sensitive information. Anyone affected should contact ÖGK immediately and report the attempted fraud.
