The travel insurance company AllClear has set out to find the best-tasting tap water based on Reddit comments.
Not every country is lucky enough to have high-quality tap water like Austria. But despite the high spring water from the Alps, our water is not the best in the world. At least, that was the conclusion of a study by travel insurance company AllClear.
Almost 2,000 comments about tap water on Reddit were analyzed. The aim is to filter out the most popular travel destinations where tourists enjoy the best-tasting tap water. The water quality would enable them to save money and reduce plastic waste by refilling plastic or reusable bottles.
According to the report, New York City’s water is the best in the world—at least in terms of taste. The Big Apple was mentioned most frequently in the threads analyzed. On the one hand, locals are convinced that the water from the Catskill Mountains contributes to the city’s iconically delicious pizzas and bagels. On the other hand, travelers are reportedly pleasantly surprised by how good it tastes.
Scotland comes in second place, a European country. Travelers praise the water from the Highlands in particular.
In addition to Great Britain, the Nordic countries also receive high praise in Europe, with Norway and Iceland enjoying the greatest popularity for tap water. Alpine countries such as Switzerland, Austria, and Germany are often mentioned. Reddit users mainly highlight Vienna for its high-quality water.
The tap water in Seattle, Colorado, Alaska, Louisiana, and Michigan was also praised in the USA. In the UK, Yorkshire’s water was praised several times for its excellent taste. In Chile, the quality of the water in Patagonia was highlighted.
Armenia, Aruba, Japan, Nepal, and the Netherlands were also mentioned. Italy was not mentioned frequently, but Rome’s street fountains left a lasting impression on travelers.
