The weather has been changeable these days – after many dry weeks, the rain has brought a welcome refreshment to the soil, forests, and fields. However, anyone hoping for stable conditions will need to be patient.
Country rain on Thursday and Friday
Between Thursday morning and Friday morning, widespread persistent rain is expected again. In between, there may be isolated showers and thunderstorms. Between 20 and 50 liters per square meter are forecast again, especially in the west and south – in some places it could be more. In comparison, Upper Austria and northern Burgenland are expected to see less rain. This precipitation is particularly important for agriculture, as the weather is expected to calm down and become drier again from the weekend.
Weather on Friday: Cool, with sunny spells
Friday will remain cool for the time being. From the Salzkammergut to the south and east, it will initially remain cloudy and rainy for longer. From the afternoon, however, clearing is also possible in these regions. The sun may appear earlier in the west and north, but short rain showers cannot be ruled out here either.
The snow line will be between 1300 and 1800 meters – in the morning, it may snow down to 1300 meters at higher altitudes. The wind will blow briskly from northwest to north. Daytime highs will range between 10 and 18 degrees Celsius. At an altitude of 2000 meters, temperatures will be between minus 2 and 2 degrees.
Saturday: Changeable with isolated showers
On Saturday, it will remain rather fresh overall. There will be longer sunny spells, but the weather will not be completely stable. Isolated showers or thunderstorms are possible, especially in the west and southwest. It may also rain briefly in other regions. The snow line will be between 1400 and 1900 meters. A moderate to brisk wind will blow from a westerly to northerly direction. Temperatures will reach 13 to 21 degrees, with the east being the warmest at up to 21 degrees.
Sunday: Slightly warmer, increasingly friendly
Temperatures will rise slightly on Sunday. The weather will show its friendlier side in many parts of Austria. In Upper Austria, Lower Austria, and Vienna, clouds will pass through at times. In Vorarlberg and North Tyrol, the clouds will increase during the afternoon, with light rain possible later on. The wind will continue to blow moderately to briskly from westerly to northerly directions. Highs will be between 16 and 23 degrees.
Sunshine and isolated showers
Monday will be warm and mostly sunny. However, clouds will move in during the course of the day. Especially from Bregenz (Vorarlberg) to St. Pölten (Lower Austria) there may be brief rain showers in the afternoon. The wind will blow briskly, from the Dachstein eastwards, also strongly, from a westerly to north-westerly direction. Temperatures will rise to 17 to 25 degrees.
Initial assessment for June
A look at previous readings and current initial forecasts suggests that June could be mild on average in Austria. Temperatures are typically between 14 and 23 degrees. For cooler days, it is therefore advisable to bring a jacket to cover up in, while swimwear is a must for warm days. On average, there are between 3 and 8 days with rain in Austria in June.
