According to parliamentary correspondence, the Christmas Ordinance was passed today in the Main Committee of the parliament with votes from the ÖVP, Greens and SPÖ. New is now that from 24 December a visit to the zoo will be possible again. On the first two days of Christmas (24th and 25th) there will be no obligation to wear a mask at parties with family or friends.
For private Christmas parties on December 24 and 25, ten people from a maximum of ten households are allowed to gather. Here there is no distance and mask obligation, it was said in a dispatch of the Ministry of Health. This also applies to the extended private living area such as a barn or garage, it said.
To protect against infections in nursing homes and homes for the elderly, all employees will be required to wear FFP2 protective masks starting Dec. 18. Visitors must also wear an FFP2 mask and have a current negative CoV test result.
Employees are tested twice a week – currently once. Home operators must provide testing for residents twice per week.
Mandatory MNS in the workplace
Wearing mouth-to-nose protection in the indoor workplace will become mandatory. Ski lifts will open on Dec. 24, with gondolas allowed to operate at only 50 percent capacity. Also from this day zoos, zoos and botanical gardens may be visited. According to the press release, it is new that museums, exhibition houses, libraries, archives and zoos must also have a prevention concept.
In connection with mandatory testing, it is noted that there is no testing obligation for people who have been demonstrably quarantined for infection in the past three months.
MNS requirement also for high-traffic outdoor locations.
An additional decree today further instructs states to create an MNS requirement for high-traffic outdoor public places such as shopping streets. District authorities must clearly mark such places, it said.
Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) said the third Covid 19 Protective Measures Ordinance represents a strong expansion of the MNS obligation and a further strengthening of the protection of residents in retirement and nursing homes. “It also creates clear rules for shared private Christmas celebrations during this exceptional year,” the department head said.
The third Covid 19 protective order takes effect Dec. 17 and is in effect through Dec. 26. On Tuesday, the main committee will meet again to discuss, for example, the rules for New Year’s Eve.
