Today, Tuesday, a Corona summit in Austria will take place. The government is once again discussing the situation with experts, the opposition and state governors, and a press conference is planned for the afternoon. Beforehand, Chancellor Kurz promised: everyone can get vaccinated in the next 100 days.
In Austria, there are 7,531,239 vaccine-eligible people (all residents over the age of 16).
In total, only about five million Austrians, estimates the Ministry of Health.
1,270,558 (16.38 percent) received a first dose, and 488,062 (6.29 percent) already have full vaccination protection.
To immunize all those willing to be vaccinated (five million), a rough estimate of 10 million vaccine doses is needed.
From Dec. 27, 2020, to April 25, a total of about 2.9 million vaccine doses will be delivered, according to the ministry – 1.8 million from BioNTech, 326,000 from Moderna, 785,000 from AstraZeneca and, for the first time next week, 16,800 doses from Johnson & Johnson. With this vaccine, only one sting is needed.
Another seven million vaccine doses are to be delivered by June 30, according to the ministry, if all manufacturers dutifully keep their contracts (which has rarely worked out so far). But: the ministry cannot say who will deliver how many. How the exact figure of seven million is arrived at remains a mystery.
In the next 100 days (until July 14), 9.9 million doses should be available. That may be, but it doesn’t have to be. But this is the only way Kurz can keep his promise.
On Easter Sunday, only 8,996 people were vaccinated. Six times as many would have been necessary.
