The seven-day incidence in Austria continues to move in the right direction, falling below the threshold of 25 at 24.9 on Sunday. This is according to figures released by the Interior and Health Ministries. However, an exorbitantly high figure of 362 new infections was reported on Sunday compared to previous days. That was well above last week’s average of 316 new infections per day, all the more remarkable for Sunday.

Fewer tests on Saturday
There was significantly less testing on Saturday than in previous days. There were 507,956 PCR and rapid antigen tests added in the past 24 hours, of which 65,567 were meaningful PCR tests. All told, we now stand at 56,375,318 Corona tests. The positive rate of PCR tests was 0.6 percent, higher than the previous seven-day average of 0.4 percent.

Fewer vaccinations over the weekend
Weekends also traditionally see fewer vaccinations, with 53,729 added on Saturday. Thus, according to the E-vaccination data, 3,879,546 people in Austria received at least a partial vaccination, or 43.6 percent of the population. 1,766,051 or 19.8 percent of Austrians are fully immunized.

The vaccination coverage rate is highest in Burgenland, at 48.5 percent. In Lower Austria, 45.9 percent of the population is vaccinated, and in Tyrol, 45.2 percent. After Salzburg (44.6 percent), Vorarlberg (44.3 percent), Carinthia (43.9 percent), Styria (42.9 percent) and Upper Austria (42.3 percent), Vienna continued at the bottom of the pack with a vaccination coverage rate of 39 percent.
