Former President Donald Trump will remain blocked by Facebook until the beginning of 2023. The online network made the announcement on Friday.
Donald Trump’s “blog” was surprisingly shut down
It was triggered by the storming of the U.S. Capitol by his supporters – and that he expressed sympathy for the attackers. He also continues to claim, without any supporting evidence, that his victory in November’s presidential election was stolen by fraud. He is thus stoking tensions.
Facebook had suspended Trump’s account until further notice and then submitted that decision to its independent oversight panel for review, which can reverse such moves. The panel found fault with the fact that an indefinite suspension was not provided for by Facebook’s rules and ordered the online network to reconsider the case. Now, Facebook suspended Trump for two years – but the deadline runs from the beginning of January this year.
