The effective reproduction rate in Austria has fallen below 1.0 again. For 3 June it is 0.86, the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) announced on Friday evening. In Vienna it was 0.95 and in Lower Austria it was 0.62. The reproduction figure is an estimate of the average number of cases of infected person.
If the figure is above 1.0, the number of infections increases continuously; if it is below 1.0, the number of infections decreases. The previous 13 epidemic days are used for the estimate.
The AGES emphasized that interpretations must always be made in conjunction with the epidemiological curve. An approximation of the effective reproduction number to 1.0 means a constant number of new cases per day, but does not give any information on the level of the incidence (number of new cases) of Covid-19 cases. The estimated rate of increase in the number of cases in Austria was minus 2.4 per cent per day for the period from 2 May to 3 June.
