The Federal Government will send this week the Corona bonus for families of 360 euro per child, announced in June on a government conference. According to the information, this is a total of 678 million euros for the approximately 1.824 million children for whom family allowance is received. The automatic payment will be made in the next two days, said Family Minister Christine Aschbacher and Finance Minister Gernot Blümel (both ÖVP) at a press conference on Tuesday.
The 360 euros per child will be indexed like the family allowance. This means that around 137,000 entitled persons with children living abroad receive more or less than the 360 euros, depending on the cost of living in the respective country.
“Every family that receives family allowance gets the money,” said Blümel. An application is not necessary. Since Tuesday, the money has been transferred to the accounts of all those entitled to it, it was said. Aschbacher said families had already written to her thanking her for the money.
Corona-Bonus should also boost economy
The child bonus is intended to cushion the financial consequences of the Corona crisis for families, but also to boost the economy. According to economists, parents with lower household incomes in particular should be able to spend the money quickly and thus boost consumption.
