Next country locks up: The lockdown in Great Britain will last two weeks.
London. After Israel, which has been in lockdown since Friday, now comes Great Britain: 42,000 corona deaths, 381,614 cases, most recently 3,395 new infections per day – because of the dramatically worsening corona situation in Great Britain, the entire country could be locked up as early as October. Top researchers recommended this to the government in order to get a grip on the rapidly increasing numbers, according to the Financial Times.
Vacations. The two-week lockdown is to take place during the school vacations in October. Health Minister Matt Hancock was still evasive: “A new nationwide lockdown is the last resort in defense,” Hancock said on Friday. Initially, he said, local restrictions would be used.
Pressure. Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who was himself infected, is under heavy pressure: “Once again he is reacting far too late,” they say. Corona tests are also in absolute short supply throughout the country.
