Austrian newspaper “Österreich” reports that The Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Spital in Vienna is Austria’s leading corona clinic – is now overcrowded.
The rising corona numbers are already leading to the first consequences in Vienna’s hospitals. The leading corona clinic, the SMZ Süd (Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Spital) is fully occupied. Currently there is no room for further Covid-19 intensive care patients there. The new infection cases must now be transferred to other hospitals such as the Floridsdorf Clinic, Favoriten or the AKH.
34 patients are currently in intensive care in Vienna, a total of 171 patients are hospitalized because of the coronavirus.
Despite rising numbers of hospitalization one sees with the Viennese health federation that there is no reason for concern: All our hospitals defined departments and ranges, in which Corona patients can be cared for as required – so also the hospital in Vienna’s 10th District Favoriten, so Nina Brenner-Küng of the health federation. There, two departments are reserved for infected persons: “Every patient in Vienna with a severe corona course requiring hospitalization can be treated in our clinics,” she argues.
550 intensive care beds available in Vienna
In Vienna alone there are currently 550 intensive care beds with ventilators and 2,200 “normal beds” for Covid-19 patients. “However, this number of beds can still be significantly increased,” says Vienna City Councilor Peter Hacker.
