Terrifying results: In a study, 20 masks of commuters were examined in the laboratory. What the researchers discovered is unfortunately more than frightening.

The Swiss consumer magazine “K-Tipp” had 20 masks used by commuters examined. The goal of the study was to find out how (un)hygienically used MNS masks are. Among other things, the investigation showed that numerous bacteria, moulds and even staphylococcus under were on the masks.

More than one million bacteria colonies found
11 of the 20 respirator masks examined in total contained more than 100,000 bacterial colonies. The researchers also found staphylococci on 14 of the 20 masks tested.

Staphylococci, bacteria that can cause pneumonia and encephalitis, were found on 14 of the masks tested. Even mold and yeast fungi were found on 15 face masks.

Hands off the mask
According to the study, it is also important not to tamper with your MNS mask with un-disinfected hands or fingers. According to the experts, this would promote the development and spread of the bacteria immensely.

Masks partly worn for weeks
The study also shows that the participants use the same masks for several days and sometimes even several weeks.
