Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) currently sees no need for a general obligation to wear masks outdoors, as is being discussed in Italy in view of the rising number of infections there. He is satisfied that step by step the awareness for the measures in closed rooms is growing again. This is “an essential step towards success”.
It speaks for Italy that there is a discussion about compulsory outdoor masks, although the figures are relatively stable compared to some other countries. In this country, Anschober said, there is only an obligation to wear a mask outdoors in markets: “And I don’t see any need for it outdoors either, I have to say quite frankly.
Anschober answered the question of whether any other tightening of the regulations was planned by saying that the nationwide measures, which were implemented almost three weeks ago, seem to be taking effect. Currently, the focus is on additional regional measures, wherever there is a higher risk, such as in the orange districts, Anschober said. There, he said, the spread of the disease is being specifically addressed.
