Slovakia is intensifying its measures in the fight against the corona virus. A mouth and nose cover must be worn outdoors from Thursday onwards, as announced by the crisis management team in Bratislava. Pull the emergency brake, said head of government Igor Matovic today, according to the agency TASR.

Restaurants will only be allowed to sell take-away food from Thursday, gyms, swimming pools and saunas will be completely closed. Grocery stores and drugstores must reserve part of their opening hours for seniors. All major events will be prohibited. The competitions of the professional sports leagues may only be held without an audience. There is still discussion about a ban on assembly for more than six people.

Slovakia has so far come through the coronavirus crisis relatively unscathed, but is struggling with increasing numbers of infections. Since the beginning of the pandemic, around 19,850 CoV cases have been registered, and there have been 61 deaths associated with Covid 19 disease. The country has almost 5.5 million inhabitants.
