Exactly 2,435 new coronavirus infections were confirmed from Wednesday to Thursday.
From Wednesday to Thursday, there were 2,435 new, confirmed coronavirus infections in Austria. This is by far the highest number recorded since the outbreak of the pandemic.
So far, the largest increase within 24 hours was 1,958 newly infected persons. This sad record, set only yesterday, was exceeded today by 477 cases.
In the comparison of the federal states, the most new, confirmed cases were again in Vienna (659), followed by Upper Austria (471), Lower Austria (403), Tyrol (338), Styria (192), Salzburg (177), Vorarlberg (92), Carinthia (63) and Burgenland (40).
So far there have been 71,844 positive test results in Austria. As of today (October 22, 2020, 09:30 a.m.), 941 people throughout Austria have died as a result of the corona virus and 53,970 have recovered. At present, 1,002 people are undergoing hospital treatment due to the corona virus and 161 of these are in intensive care.
The situation in Vienna
The 659 new cases in Vienna also represent a new record level of new coronavirus infections. However, a spokesperson for the city’s crisis management team said in response to APA demand, this figure must be put into relation to the high number of tests performed yesterday, Wednesday (7,187).
According to the spokesperson, the new infections “are mostly K1 persons, which can be assigned to already existing clusters. K1-persons are those who have had direct and prolonged close contact with a demonstrably confirmed coronavirus-infected person. The contact persons are collected, isolated and tested via contact tracing.
So far, a total of 24,909 demonstrably confirmed coronavirus infections have been registered in Vienna. At present, 5,812 people are suffering from the disease. 300 people have died as a result, five of them since early Wednesday morning. The additional deaths are among women between the ages of 45 and 91 years, all of whom suffered from pre-existing conditions.
A total of 18,797 people are healthy again. On Wednesday 7,187 tests were performed. The total number of tests is thus 569,933.
Travel warnings
The further rising case numbers in Austria were also reflected in further travel warnings early on Thursday morning. Germany put whole Austria with exception Kärnten on the risk list, the Netherlands equal the whole country.
