For the first time in Austria, more than 3,000 new cases were reported within 24 hours.
Corona numbers in Austria continue to rise rapidly. Within 24 hours, 3,614 new infections were reported throughout Austria, most of them in Vienna.
So far there have been 78,029 positive test results in Austria. As of today (October 24, 2020, 09:30 a.m.), 965 people throughout Austria have died as a result of the corona virus and 56,791 have recovered. At present, 1,177 people are undergoing hospital treatment due to the corona virus and 175 of these patients are in intensive care units.
The new infections are divided among the provinces of Austria as follows:

777 new corona infection cases in Vienna
In Vienna 777 new coronavirus infections were reported from Friday to Saturday. At the same time, the number of new cases published on Friday “due to a problem in data transmission” had to be corrected from 615 to the previous record of 808, the medical crisis team informed the staff in a mailing. In total, there are 26,494 positive test results in Vienna to date.
The number of deaths related to the virus is now 309, and three men (80, 73 and 65 years old) have died in the past 24 hours. In addition, 309 people with a Covid infection are currently undergoing hospital treatment – 69 of them in a monitoring or intensive care unit.
19,700 people have recovered – 511 more than the day before. Yesterday, Friday, 7,479 tests were also performed in Vienna, bringing the total number of tests in the capital to 584,976.
101 new infections in Burgenland
The Coronavirus Coordination Staff reported 101 new Covid-19 infections in Burgenland on Saturday. 415 persons or 49 more than the day before were currently infected, 1,147 persons (plus 52) recovered. The total number of confirmed cases in the province rose to 1,578.
In hospitals in Burgenland 31 Covid-19 patients were treated in isolation on Saturday, four of them in the intensive care unit. The coordinating staff also reported that 1,500 people in the state were under officially ordered quarantine.
