German Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet with the Prime Ministers on Wednesday to discuss further restrictions to contain the pandemic in view of rising corona cases. According to a media report, the German government is pressing for drastic restrictions in Germany for the whole of November, as shown in a draft resolution (as of late Tuesday evening) for the conference, which is available to the newspapers of the “Funke Mediengruppe”.
According to the resolution, from November 4 to the end of November, citizens are to be urged to “restrict contacts with other people outside the members of their own household to an absolute minimum”. For this reason, the public would only be allowed to be in contact with members of one’s own household and one other household. Groups of people celebrating in public places, in apartments and in private institutions are “unacceptable in view of the serious situation in our country” and violations of the contact restrictions are sanctioned. As Merkel and the heads of the Länder have already emphasized many times, schools and kindergartens should be spared from the restrictions.
Whether the draft resolution from the Chancellor’s Office will be adopted one-to-one at the crisis summit on Wednesday remains open. Individual German states have already announced that they consider complete closures in the catering sector, for example, to be wrong.
