Switzerland takes the federal states of Vienna, Upper Austria, Lower Austria, Burgenland and Salzburg, which have been classified as risk areas since September, off its red list. Under the new regulation, which comes into force tomorrow, persons from all regions of Austria can again enter Switzerland without quarantine requirements, according to the website of the Foreign Ministry in Vienna and the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
In future, the Swiss Federal Council will only include on its risk list states and territories whose 14-day incidence per 100,000 inhabitants is 60 times higher than the incidence in Switzerland. The current limit is therefore 822.
Of the neighboring states, only some regions of France are thus still on Switzerland’s red list. Austria classifies Switzerland as a country with “high security risk” (level four), but there are no travel warnings.
In terms of population, Switzerland, with its approximately 8.5 million inhabitants, is currently recording very high growth rates in new coronavirus infections. Yesterday, Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein together registered 8,616 new infections within 24 hours. In order to contain the second wave, the Federal Council again tightened the measures: discos and dance halls were closed, bars and restaurants are only allowed to be open until 11 p.m., and the obligation to wear masks is being extended.
