Preparations for the second corona lockdown in Austria are in full swing, and new details are seeping through from government circles every day. Currently, a report is causing a stir, according to which the federal government is planning a “night-time curfew from 20 to 6 o’clock”. . Insiders speak of a restriction with the exceptions already introduced in spring.
According to the online platform of “Österreich” newspaper oe24.at the initial restrictions will come into force at the beginning of next week (it is still open whether on Monday or Tuesday).
oe24.at published the details of the new lockdown plan
Events: Four weeks not allowed
As soon as the lockdown comes into effect, all events should be paused for four weeks. After that, the hospitalization rates will have to be reassessed. This will also affect the entire public cultural life: That means: Opera, theaters and cinemas will be stopped just as concerts are. Up to now – and this was uniquely high in Western Europe – up to 1,000 spectators have been allowed indoors.
Stores: Trade will remain open
Light: As in Germany, this time retailers should be allowed to remain open, unlike in spring, as long as hygiene concepts and safety distances can be maintained. It would be possible to do something about the opening and closing times.
Sport: No more audience
Professional sports should no longer be allowed to take place in front of an audience. At the beginning of September, 10,000 people were still allowed outdoors, then 3,000 and finally 1,500. With an exponential growth in the incidence of infection and more and more hospitals filling up dangerously fast, this risk can no longer be avoided, the governing parties now agree.
Gastro: It should be closed for four weeks
As in most EU countries, the catering trade – which in the east of Austria was still allowed to be open until 1 a.m. – will no longer be allowed to serve customers in the restaurant. Take-away and delivery services are to be permitted.
Since the community spread in Austria is very large – meaning that the majority of people no longer know where they were originally infected – the emergency brake must also be pulled here. Compensation is being negotiated here.
Schools: Should remain open
Elementary school: In the first wave, gastronomy was given preference – it was allowed to reopen long before the schools. This time it will be the other way around. Since elementary school children cannot be compensated for their lost opportunities, elementary schools, lower grades and kindergartens should remain open.
Negotiations are underway to switch to e-learning for four weeks in the upper school, where there are many infections.
