The option of sick leave by telephone was already available during the first lockdown, after which a physical visit to the doctor was again necessary. The only suspected cases of Covid were those that could still be written off sick over the phone.
Why is the possibility again limited in time? “Personal contact with the doctor is still the ideal way to care for patients and should not be replaced by remote diagnosis in the long run. By taking sick leave over the phone, we reduce the risk of corona infection for doctors as well as for health care personnel and additionally relieve the health care system. We hope that this will create additional capacity for future free testing,” explains Kurt Egger, Secretary General of the German Economic Association.
