U.S. President Donald Trump has ruled out new far-reaching restrictions on public life in the United States despite further increases in coronavirus numbers. “We will never again have a lockdown,” Trump announced yesterday at an election campaign appearance in Tampa, Florida. He also made explicit reference to the restrictions announced in Germany and France.
Trump pointed out that effective drugs such as antibody drugs and vaccines would soon be available. However, experts, including those from Trump’s government, warned that months are likely to pass until then. They therefore advocated the wearing of masks, among other things.
A few days before the US presidential election, a record number of new coronavirus infections were recorded in the country. As Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore announced yesterday, 91,295 new cases of infection were recorded within 24 hours. This is the first time the threshold of 90,000 new infections within one day has been broken.
Biden: Trump hosts “Corona Superspreader Events
US presidential candidate Joe Biden accused Trump of endangering human lives with major events during the pandemic. During his “superspreader events” during his election campaign, the president spread viruses throughout the country – this term refers to events in which a particularly large number of people are infected.
“He says that it is coming to an end, that (the virus) is going away. That we learn to live with it. No, he expects us to learn to die with it,” Biden shouted to his followers on Thursday in Coconut Creek (Florida) near Miami. In addition to virus, Trump also spreads division and discord.
At the event, as in the previous days, thousands of people stood in front of the stage, partly without masks and crowded together. Biden, on the other hand, performed yesterday as in the past in front of a much smaller crowd. In front of his stage there were about 200 cars – the organizers asked the occupants to stay close to their cars at all times in order to keep the distance rules.
Bolsonaro: New lockdowns is “crazy“
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro also does not think much of lockdowns. This is “crazy”, says the right-wing foreign policy expert in view of the efforts in many Western countries to mitigate the second wave of coronavirus. Meanwhile, the coronavirus continues to spread in Brazil. The Ministry of Health last reported 26,106 new infections.
This brings the total number of infections to almost 5.5 million. The number of deaths increased by 513 to 159,969 within 24 hours. In the coronavirus pandemic, Brazil has the highest number of infections and deaths worldwide after the USA and India.
