In a riot in a prison in the Philippines today, three inmates were killed and 64 others injured. According to authorities, it was initially unclear what triggered the violence in the high-security prison New Bilibid Prison in the city of Muntinlupa near Manila.
Only in October, nine people were killed in clashes between rival gangs in the prison. Whether the two incidents are connected was still unclear. The notorious New Bilibid Prison has 18,000 inmates. However, surveillance cameras are only installed at strategic locations, and the prisoners are not guarded around the clock.
