In Italy, the number of new corona infections decreased from 37,255 to 33,979 within 24 hours. There were 546 deaths, two more than the day before. Thus, the number of deaths since the beginning of the epidemic in Italy on February 20 is 45,229. 195,275 tests were performed within 24 hours. The number of swabs taken at the weekend is usually lower than on weekdays.
The number of confirmed active cases was 712,490. The number of people infected with SARS CoV-2 in quarantine was 677,021. The number of Covid 19 patients treated in hospitals increased from 31,398 the previous day to 32,047, the Ministry of Health reported. There were 3,422 patients in intensive care units, 116 more than the previous day.
Since (today) Sunday also the regions Toscana and Campania belong to “red zones”. The people have to stay at home for the most part. Exceptions apply only for the way to work, to the doctor or to shopping. Bars, restaurants and almost all stores except supermarkets and pharmacies have to close.
In order to stem the rapid spread of the coronavirus, the Italian government has imposed a nationwide night-time curfew and divided the regions into three risk levels, in which different strict measures apply depending on the infection situation. There are red, orange and yellow regions.
