The daily number of new infections in Austria has stagnated for days at around 7,000 cases. For Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) this means the continuation of “stagnation at a dramatically high level”.
From Thursday to Friday, the number of new infections was slightly lower – 6,668 cases were reported. This means that 76,644 are currently infected in Austria.
For the second time, more than 100 deaths (108) in connection with the coronavirus were registered within 24 hours. So far, 2,224 people in Austria have died as a result of SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Only slight increase in the number of hospitalized patients
However, the number of patients requiring hospital treatment with Covid-19 has increased only slightly. 11 more patients than on Thursday had to be treated. The intensive care units registered four more patients than the day before.
Thus, a total of 4,629 Covid-19 patients were in hospital on Friday. 687 of them needed intensive medical care, according to figures from the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Health.
