The German Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) assumes that the first citizens can be immunized against the corona virus in vaccination centers before the end of this year. “There is cause for optimism that there will be an approval for a vaccine in Europe before the end of this year. And then we can start with the vaccinations immediately,” Spahn told the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland”.
He had asked the countries to ensure that the vaccination centers were ready for use by mid-December. That seems to be working. “I’d rather have a vaccination center ready to go, which is out of action for a few more days, than an approved vaccine that is not used immediately,” Spahn continued.
Germany has now secured more than 300 million vaccine doses for Germany through the EU Commission, bilateral agreements and options. “Even with two doses per vaccination, we would then have enough for our own population and could share with other countries,” said Spahn.
