Vienna. It’s a mammoth task: as many Austrians as possible are to be tested on Corona by December 15. Yesterday the starting signal for the mass tests in Vienna, Tyrol and Vorarlberg was given.
In front of the Marx-Halle, Messe Wien and the Stadthalle there were long queues at first – around 8.00 am. After only a few minutes they dissolved.
PC breakdown delayed the counting of the tests
Breakdown. The rush was strong in all federal states. This was probably one of the reasons for the computer breakdown. In Innsbruck, the IT system went down after only about an hour. Vienna followed shortly afterwards. By the editorial deadline, the balance sheet was available by 1 pm:
Vienna. A total of 13,300 people had been tested here by noon. 58 of them were positive, that is 0.44 percent.
Tirol. To noon 24 persons were infected from 6.000 tests. The persons concerned must make additionally a PCR test.
Vorarlberg. Here the computers were running perfectly, the Ländle has its own system. Balance in the late afternoon: 42,325 negative and 163 positive tests.
So far 160,000 Austrians have registered for the tests. Actually, the authorities hope for several million participants.
Seven million rapid antigen tests have already been ordered and further orders are planned. The cost of the first seven million tests is 50 million Euro.
Tests from the companies Roche (4 million) and Siemens (3 million tests) will be used. At the beginning of the new year, a second mass test series is planned throughout the country, the government announced.
