According to the renowned immunologist Anthony Fauci, the pandemic could reach another peak in the USA in mid-January. “If we do not counteract strongly, mid January could be a very dark time for us”, Fauci said today at a joint press conference with New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo.

He said that this was mainly due to the many people who had met and still wanted to meet with many other people during the holidays – Thanksgiving at the end of November and Hanukkah and Christmas in December – despite recommendations to the contrary from the US health authority CDC.

Fauci continued by saying that he expects that sufficient vaccine will be available for all people in the U.S. by April. Then the country could be in good shape for the summer or early fall. The 79-year-old is the best known – and most popular – coronavirus expert in the USA. The newly elected US President Joe Biden had recently announced that Fauci would become his chief medical advisor.

In the meantime, new highs have been reached nationwide. In total, more than 14 million people in the country of 330 million inhabitants have been infected with the coronavirus.
