Corona figures for Austria on Thursday: 2,686 new infections were registered again. In just one day, 107 people died from Corona.
While our most important neighboring country, Germany, is aiming for a hard December lockdown, the situation in Austria continues to be stable. Within a day’s time, there have been 2,686 new infections with the virus throughout Austria. In addition, 107 people died as a result of the disease. The three-week lockdown therefore continues to have an impact, as predicted by experts, and so the trend is downward. Decisive for the evaluation of the situation is always also the view of the last Thursday, where there were still 3,969 new infections in Austria.
The current positive test results are distributed among the nine federal states as follows:
➤ Burgenland: 45
➤ Carinthia: 207
➤ Lower Austria: 380
➤ Upper Austria: 445
➤ Salzburg: 249
➤ Styria: 322
➤ Tyrol: 225
➤ Vorarlberg: 149
➤ Vienna: 664
Relief in the hospitals
As of today (December 10, 2020, 9:30 a.m.), 313,688 people have contracted Covid-19 across the country so far, according to the Ministry of the Interior. 4,163 people have died as a result of the infection (that’s 107 new deaths since Wednesday) and 269,665 have recovered. Currently, 3,195 people are receiving hospital treatment for the Corona virus (that’s 49 fewer than yesterday) and of those, 585 of the ill (down 25) are in intensive care units.
“Catastrophe averted”
Thursday morning also gave Health Minister Rudolf Anschober an update on the Corona situation in Austria. “We have currently averted the great catastrophe, but absolutely nothing has been won yet. We must continue to work so that there is no overloading of intensive care units,” the health minister said. According to Anschober, new infections must be pushed toward the 1,000 mark in order to keep the reproduction factor between 0.8 and 0.9. The average age of Covid-19 intensive care patients at AKH is currently 55.
