Within one day, public health departments in Germany have reported 20,200 new Corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). This is according to figures released Sunday morning. The peak had been reached on Friday with 29,875 reported cases. On Sundays, the recorded case numbers are usually lower, partly because less testing is done on weekends. Last Sunday, the number had been 17,767.
The health authorities also reported 321 new deaths within one day. The previous high of 598 deaths had also been reached on Friday. The trend in daily deaths had recently been upward, which was expected after the steep increase in new infections. The total number of people who have died from or with the involvement of a confirmed infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 21,787.
In total, the Robert Koch Institute counts 1,320,716 confirmed infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the start of the pandemic (as of 12/13, 00:00). According to estimates, around 967,900 people have since recovered.
