More than two million participants (out of a population of around 8.9 million) were recorded in the first Corona mass test series. More than 4,000 infected persons were found – with PCR retesting. Testing will continue in Upper Austria until Monday, and in Burgenland until Tuesday. Although the targeted 60 percent was not reached, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner (ÖVP) sees the result as a “successful large-scale project that will be repeated in the New Year.” This is because it was possible to locate several thousand infected people who would probably not have known they were positive without mass testing, Tanner said.
There will be a second series of tests from January 8 to 10.
