The number of deaths and new infections with coronavirus remains at a high level in Germany. German health authorities have reported 14,432 new cases and 500 deaths to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day. This is the third highest level of deaths since the pandemic began. The total number of people who died from or with the involvement of a confirmed infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 22,475.
On Tuesday of the previous week, 14,054 new infections and 423 deaths had been reported. The highs of 29,875 reported cases and 598 deaths had been reached on Friday.
The 7-day incidence – the reported new infections per 100,000 population within seven days – which is crucial for assessing the situation, declined slightly. It was at a high of 176.4 on Monday, declining to 173.7 on Tuesday.
The nationwide seven-day R-value was 1.06 (previous day: 1.12), according to Monday’s RKI situation report. This means that 100 infected people mathematically infect 106 more people. The value represents in each case the infection occurrence 8 to 16 days ago. Only if it lies for longer time under 1, this slackens.
