U.S. President-elect Joe Biden and his vice president, Kamala Harris, should get vaccinated against coronavirus as soon as possible, according to renowned U.S. immunologist Anthony Fauci.
Referring to 78-year-old Biden, Fauci told U.S. broadcaster ABC News, “He should be as fully protected as possible when he takes the presidency in January. So that would be my strong recommendation.”
Advice also for Trump
Fauci is director of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases and part of the White House Coronavirus Working Group. Biden recently announced that Fauci would become his chief adviser on the coronavirus pandemic.
Fauci said he would also advise incumbent President Donald Trump and his deputy, Mike Pence, to get vaccinated – if asked for a recommendation. Trump had contracted Covid-19 in October. But it is unclear how well and for how long a survived illness immunizes a person, Fauci indicated.
