The first Corona vaccinations will start this year in Vienna and parts of Lower Austria. “I expect these 10,000 doses on the 23rd, 24th or sometime on the 28th (December 2020) due to holidays. And we will vaccinate with them immediately,” said Clemens-Martin Auer, special representative for health, on “Ö1 Morgenjournal.”
In some selected nursing homes in Vienna and Lower Austria, the vaccinations will begin, he said. The reason is logistical issues, as Pfizer can only deliver the first doses to Vienna. A further 230,000 vaccine doses will be distributed to nursing homes scattered across Austria in the course of January, where they will be administered to residents and staff.
Auer is convinced that everyone who wants to can be vaccinated by summer. With Astra Zeneca, Pfizer-Biontech and Moderna, vaccines from three suppliers would be available by then. More would be added. “And then we will have enough vaccines to have everyone who wants to be vaccinated by summer,” Auer says.
