Because of the huge rush, the Vienna city government has announced more testing opportunities for the next few days. In the test lanes near the Austria Center in Vienna, there will be more appointment slots before Christmas after all. This was announced by a spokesman for city health councillor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) on Tuesday. Until December 26, 1,000 additional appointments per day will be possible. Also the time for the next mass tests is now certain.

The capacity expansion had become possible by the establishment of further walk-in lanes and the supply of additional personnel. The aim is to give people who want to visit relatives in nursing homes at the holidays the opportunity to take the test.

In addition, Vienna still has a pact with the federal government to conduct the second round of mass testing from January 8 to 17. What this means for the “Freitesten” is however still unclear, one stressed opposite the Austria press agency. The corresponding ordinance is still being awaited.

Vienna: Positive rate of 0.2 percent
Almost all Viennese who complete the test procedure in the massively frequented rapid test streets leave them with good news – i.e. a negative result. The positive rates at the Austria Center, for example, are around 0.2 percent and at the stadium only slightly higher.

In the test lane at the Austria Center, according to the office of Health City Councillor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) 9226 Antigen tests were conducted on Monday. Of these, only 20 were positive. At the stadium 840 of the visitors completed such a rapid test. Only two infections were detected. It can be assumed that the the positive rate is even lower, as is emphasized.

Upper Austria with significantly higher positive rate
In the free antigen rapid tests offered on Monday and Tuesday in Upper Austria, there was a significantly higher positive rate of 1.01 percent in contrast to the other federal states. A total of 6294 people had themselves tested. Of these, 64 were positive, 6137 negative, with 93 the result was “undeterminable.” This was announced by the country in a press release. In the mass tests from December 11 to 14, with 1306 detected infections, the positive rate had been 0.38 percent.

The offer of the current antigen rapid tests had been increased in Upper Austria because of the high interest by twelve new locations.

Registration for these additional test sites is via https://oesterreich-testet.at/. For the existing ones at https://ooe.testet.at and at www.linz.at/massentest for the Design Center location in Linz.

The state asked everyone wishing to be tested free of charge to make an appointment in advance with the online portals. Testing on the spot without prior registration was only intended for those people who did not have access to the Internet or had technical problems during registration. Otherwise, due to the persistently high number of people who go to the test sites without registering, no guarantee can be given for the next few days that everyone who shows up without registering can actually be tested.

Lower Austria: Positive rate of 0.3 percent
In Lower Austria 30,642 persons were tested. As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, 93 positive results have been recorded, according to the Notruf Niederösterreich dashboard, representing a rate of 0.30 percent. Testing was still underway at the five sites in the state until 8 p.m.
