In Germany, more than two million people have already been infected with the virus since the outbreak of the Corona pandemic. Health offices reported 22,368 new Corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within 24 hours, the RKI announced Friday morning. This brought the number of infections to 2,000,958 (as of Jan. 15, 0 a.m.). In addition, 1,113 new deaths were recorded within 24 hours.
The actual total number of infections is likely to be even higher, as many infections go undetected. The number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants reported to health offices within seven days (seven-day incidence) was 146.1 on Friday morning. However, the differences between the federal states are currently enormous: Thüringen has the highest incidence with 287.6 and Saxony with 274.1, while Bremen has the lowest with 78.7.
In recent days, the number of registered new infections has risen again, the RKI situation report said Thursday evening. Whether this trend will continue, beyond the expected retesting and re-reporting, will only become clear over the next few days, it said.
The total number of people who died from or with the involvement of a confirmed infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 44,994, and the nationwide seven-day R-value was 1.02 (previous day: also 1.02), according to Thursday’s RKI report.
