Austria is about to extend the lockdown. But a strict Corona measure will come into force as early as January 15.
The federal government plans to decide this weekend how to proceed with the lockdown in Austria. The current lockdown is still valid until January 24, but could be extended due to the still high infection figures. In any case, the opening steps from January 25 onwards are shaky.
But before the government decides on a possible extension of the lockdown in the country, a strict Corona rule will come into force on Friday, January 15. As of today, all those entering Austria must register online in advance – this measure also applies to Austrians!
A new amendment of the Covid-19 entry regulation brings a mandatory electronic registration (“Pre-Travel Clearance”) before an entry. The quarantine obligation remains in place, a “free test” is possible after five days at the earliest.
There are individual exceptions to the registration requirement, for example for regular commuters, for transit travelers or for persons who enter the country for family reasons that are particularly worthy of consideration and cannot be postponed. These persons are allowed to enter the country without the obligation of quarantine upon presentation of a negative PCR or antigen test.
This test must not be older than 72 hours at the time of entry. Registered data will be deleted after 28 days of entry. The electronic registration form is available on the website “www.oesterreich.gv.at” in English and German.
