In Austria, 66 people have died from or with coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
The corona situation in Austria is tense, the British virus mutation B 1.1.7 on the rise. The infection figures are too high even after three weeks of lockdown.

The provincial governors and the government have been discussing since yesterday what opening steps the country can be expected to take. Quite probably none. The situation is “highly volatile,” as Chancellor Sebastian Kurz put it. It is necessary to proceed “extremely cautiously.

Like mach epidemiologist, Carinthia’s governor Peter Kaiser even expects the lockdown to be extended “well into February”. This morning, a panel of experts expressed its opinion after a meeting with government representatives. The tenor: The incidences are currently between 130 and 150 in Austria – and thus “much too high” for a relaxation of the lockdown.

What do the numbers say? From yesterday to today, 1,723 new infections were registered in Austria, and 66 people died from or with the coronavirus. The average for the past week is 50.

From the domestic hospitals could be discharged within the last 24 hours 37 patients, in the intensive care units there is a slight increase of five people.

So far, there have been 392,511 positive test results in Austria. As of today, 7,053 people across Austria have died as a result of Corona virus and 367,785 have recovered. Currently, 2,010 people are undergoing hospital treatment due to the Corona virus, and 342 of those infected are in intensive care units.
