In Vienna, there are precise regulations on how leftover doses of the coronavirus vaccine – for example, in retirement homes – are to be handled. To this end, a waiting list is currently being compiled, on which those willing to be vaccinated can register via the online pre-registration platform.
This was explained to the APA by a spokesman for the city’s health councillor Peter Hacker (SPÖ). The registered ones are prioritized – for example after age or previous illnesses – and then according to the order if necessary spontaneously contacted.
Guidelines for vaccination order in Vienna
“There is an unmistakable instruction from the health authority to all vaccination teams that already in the preparation of vaccination appointments it is necessary to plan how to deal with vaccine doses that are left over and have to be vaccinated quickly due to their short shelf life. These vaccine doses are to be allocated to the currently defined target groups,” the spokesman stressed on Tuesday.
Leftover vaccine can also be vaccinated to prioritized target groups
In case of doubt, the vaccination teams would have to consult with the operational staff. “If there is no other option due to the time expiration date of vaccine, the vaccine can be vaccinated to other prioritized target groups such as emergency personnel, people over 80 years of age or high-risk patients.”
This approach had also been communicated in writing to the vaccination teams, it said. It was further announced that “the health authority will also verify compliance with these regulations through unannounced inspections.” If there are any violations of this regulation, there will be consequences: “Vaccination teams where there has been misconduct will no longer be deployed.”
Corona vaccination: “Must strictly adhere to specifications”
And also Health Councillor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) underlined to the APA: “As long as we have as little vaccine as we currently have, we must strictly adhere to the specifications. Everyone must understand that: We cannot accept that there is discontent among the population because of this.”
Pre-registration for coronavirus vaccination in Vienna
In Vienna, people who want to be vaccinated can register for coronavirus vaccination by calling 1450 or using the online preregistration platform. For this purpose, personal data must be entered into a form. It depends on the particular data in which phase one is invited for vaccination.
Registration for waiting list also possible
In addition, those willing to be vaccinated can also be placed on the waiting list. If doses are unexpectedly left over during vaccinations, these people are contacted – according to the vaccination prioritization – and can spontaneously step in within one to two hours.
