After Hofer also provides the Rewe Group with a price surprise. Already from tomorrow FFP2 masks are to be offered at 59 cents a piece.
The new rules of the extended lockdown from January 25 include the increase of the general distance rule from one to two meters as well as the FFP2 mask obligation in retail and public transport. To ensure that everyone can get their hands on such a mask, they will also be available in supermarkets in the future.
Today, Wednesday, the discount store Hofer surprised with an announcement: starting Thursday, FFP2 masks will be available in all Hofer stores for 59 cents a piece. Now the Rewe group is following suit.
Billa, Merkur, Penny and Bipa, as well as all participating Adeg stores, will also be dispensing FFP2 masks at cost price of 0.59 euros a piece from Thursday. “Protecting the health of our customers as well as our employees is our top priority,” Rewe said in a statement on Wednesday afternoon.
The masks will be available individually or in packs of 10. They will be distributed in household quantities of a maximum of five per customer for the single pack and one per pack of 10.
Rewe’s promise: “Only high-quality masks from Austrian production, which are sourced from Hygiene Austria, for example, go on sale.”
As Finance Minister Gernot Blümel announced on Tuesday, the sales tax for FFP2 masks will no longer apply. To ensure the 10 m2 rule per person, Hofer stores may only be entered with a shopping cart.
According to WKO information, the health authorities will carry out random checks in the supermarkets. The respective employees will also draw the customers’ attention to the new regulation in the store, as Rewe press spokesman Paul Pöttschacher explained in response to a question from “Heute”: “Anyone who does not comply despite being asked to do so, we cannot grant them access to our stores.”
