The range of Corona test roads in Vienna is being further expanded.
Starting Monday, all Viennese will also have the opportunity to be tested for the corona virus free of charge at the Vienna Stadthalle. Other testing lanes are located at Happel Stadium, on the Danube Island and at the Austria Center.
The City of Vienna is expanding its corona testing services. In addition to the existing test streets at the Happel Stadium, on the Danube Island and in the Austria Center, there is from Monday also in the Vienna Stadthalle the possibility for all federal capitals to be checked free of charge for a viral infection, announced Health City Councillor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) on Saturday in a release. The background is the mandatory weekly tests for certain occupational groups from Monday.
Test streets for 1,800 people per day
As a first step, two test lanes will be opened in the Stadthalle – which had already served as one of three Vienna locations for the two mass tests initiated by the federal government. This would correspond to a capacity of 1,800 people per day, a spokesman for Hacker said as reported by APA.
The federal government’s legal requirements would make it necessary for numerous occupational groups to present proof of a negative Corona test result to their employers once a week starting January 25. “The city of Vienna will of course provide the necessary infrastructure for free testing,” Hacker explained in the release.
However, all Viennese who do not belong to the relevant occupational groups can also be tested at the additional location Stadthalle. A registration, which is to be possible starting from today Saturday, is absolutely necessary – on-line under https://coronavirus.wien.gv.at/site/testangebote/.
PCR gargle tests to be expanded
Aside from expanding test lanes, the city is also rolling out more self-administered PCR gargle tests. After introducing weekly test kits for staff in city educational institutions on Jan. 18, federal schools and private kindergartens will join them on Monday. Municipal employees with customer contact will also be provided with these kits starting Monday. In the further course, the offer is to be extended to all city staff.
