As of Wednesday, January 20, 2021, 1,671 new Corona infections have been reported in Austria. 38 people died from or with the virus in the last 24 hours.
In the provincial comparison of new corona infections, Lower Austria pulls ahead again somewhat with 393 new infections. Upper Austria is also scratching the 300 mark with 290 new infections, while Vienna is in third place with 264 new infected persons.
Corona infections by federal state
The new infections since the last report are divided among the federal states of Austria as follows:

Carinthia: 99
Lower Austria: 393
Upper Austria: 290
Salzburg: 209
Styria: 199
Tyrol: 112
Vorarlberg: 74
Vienna: 264
Of 23,679 PCR tests reported across Austria within one day, 7.1 percent were positive. The seven-day incidence (number of new infections) per 100,000 population fell from 141.5 to 138.7 from Tuesday to Wednesday.
Slight decline in hospitals
Slight declines continued among hospital patients. Within the past seven days, occupancy fell 7.9 percent to just over 2,000 sufferers. In the intensive care units, there were 323, down 8.8 percent from a week ago. At the peak so far in November, nearly 4,700 Covid 19 sufferers were receiving hospital treatment, including more than 700 in intensive care units.
369 Covid deaths were reported across Austria in a seven-day period. That’s an average of more than 52 per day. 374,824 people in Austria have recovered from infection to date. The number of active cases of infected people was thus 16,035 on Wednesday, 101 fewer than the previous day and down 451 from a week ago.
