German health authorities have reported to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) 14,022
In addition, 839 new deaths within 24 hours, the RKI announced Friday morning. Last Friday, the RKI had reported 17,862 new infections and
859 new deaths within 24 hours.
The trend toward declining new infection numbers thus continues. The RKI reported a 7-day incidence of 94.4 on Friday, down from 98 on Thursday, the first time the figure had fallen below 100 in a quarter. That means there are fewer than 100 new infections per 100,000 residents on average over the past seven days. The federal government’s goal is an incidence of less than 50 so that chains of infection can be traced again by health departments.
Mexico now with third most pandemic deaths
Mexico has surpassed India as the country with the third most officially recorded deaths from the coronavirus pandemic. Mexico’s Ministry of Health announced Thursday (local time) that 1,506 new deaths related to covid 19 disease had been reported in the past 24 hours. That brought the total number since the pandemic began to 155,145.
India’s death toll so far stands at 153,847. The South Asian country has a population of about 1.3 billion – ten times that of Mexico, which ranks tenth among the most populous countries. The North American country ranks 13th in the world with 1,825,519 confirmed infections. India has the second most confirmed cases after the U.S., with just over 10.7 million.
The fact that the number of cases in Mexico is comparatively low is mainly due to the fact that extremely little testing for the coronavirus is carried out there. Experts also believe that the true number of corona deaths in Mexico is significantly higher than the official figure.
