Starting Monday, stricter rules will also apply to supermarkets as part of the opening up of the retail sector. In the future, 20 square meters of space must be available per customer, instead of the previous ten square meters. Because of the principle of equality, the same rules must apply to all retailers, a spokesman for the Ministry of Health said yesterday. The tightening therefore affects all retailers, not just those that are allowed to reopen on Monday after the longer closure break.

Body-oriented service providers, such as hairdressers, are exempted from the tightening. They only have to provide ten square meters per customer. The reason given for the distinction is that a customer visiting a body-related service provider would also have to show a negative coronavirus test.
