The chancellor takes the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to task and urges it to also test the Russian and Chinese vaccines. He himself would also be vaccinated with the vaccines.
Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) wants to have the Russian and Chinese Corona vaccine produced in Austria. Following approval of the two vaccines, “Austria would certainly try to make production capacities available at suitable domestic companies for Russian or Chinese vaccines,” Kurz told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper. “Just as it would for manufacturers in other countries,” he added.
“After all, the point is to get as much safe vaccine as quickly as possible – no matter by whom it was developed,” stressed Kurz, who only on Thursday in a statement to APA had advocated that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) should also examine the approval of vaccines from Russia and China. There should be “no geopolitical taboos” in this regard, he said.
Chancellor would get vaccinated with Russian or Chinese vaccine
“Yes, if the vaccines are approved in Europe,” Kurz replied in the “Welt am Sonntag” interview to the question of whether he himself would be vaccinated with Sputnik V or a Chinese preparation. “The vaccines are solely about effectiveness, safety and rapid availability, not about geopolitical battles,” he affirmed.
