On Monday afternoon, the government informed about the current coronavirus situation in Austria after consultations. The federal government extends the lockdown for gastronomy, tourism and the cultural sector until “around Easter”.
Expert consultations: No relaxations
A concrete date, when the industries concerned may unlock, was not announced. On March 1, this will be discussed again, said Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) on Monday afternoon, after consultations with experts, provinces and the parliamentary parties.
Gastro and hotels remain closed until Easter
Inns and restaurants have been closed to contain the coronavirus since November 2, 2020, 15 weeks, as have hotels for holidaymakers. Cultural establishments and leisure facilities such as theaters and cinemas have also been closed since then.
Infection situation in Austria stable
Kurz said the infection situation remains stable after opening all trade. He said the British virus mutation has increased in eastern Austria and the South African virus mutation has increased in Tyrol. He said that great caution is still required and that private contacts should be avoided unchanged. Meetings of two households are currently permitted. “If everyone is not careful here, we will quickly be back to exponential growth,” Kurz warned.
