Austria recorded 3,357 new infections

Within 24 hours, 3,357 positive tests have been registered in Austria, the health and interior ministries reported Thursday. Compared to Thursday of last week, that’s up by 829 cases. With minus 37, the number of hospitalized fell slightly to 1,814, also that of patients in intensive care units fell by 14 to 386.

8,982 people have died of or with Corona since the outbreak of the pandemic. From Wednesday to Thursday, 26 new deaths have been added. Meanwhile, 100.9 people per 100,000 population have died in Austria in connection with Covid-19.

More than half a million people have contracted the coronavirus since the pandemic broke out. There have been 504,581 positive tests in Austria to date. 465,984 have recovered after being infected. Currently, 29,615 people are suffering from an infection. This means that 1,061 affected people have been added in the past 24 hours.

The most new infections from Wednesday to Thursday were in Vienna with 1,019 cases. There were 655 positive PCR tests in Lower Austria, 479 in Upper Austria, 255 in Salzburg, 209 in Tyrol, 380 in Styria, 192 in Carinthia, 119 in Burgenland and 49 in Vorarlberg.

Of the 56,792 tests taken within the last 24 hours, 5.9 percent were positive. On Wednesday, this positive rate was still 7.6. Looking at the provinces individually, the proportion of positive tests was highest in Carinthia at 24 percent, followed by 18.1 in Upper Austria. Although Vienna had the highest number of new infections, the positive rate here was only 5.3 percent. More than 6.17 million PCR tests have been performed since the pandemic began a year ago.

The seven-day incidence per 100,000 population increased from 216.9 to 220.9, with the highest rate this time recorded in Vienna, where the seven-day incidence was 287.4.

1,150,378 vaccinations have been registered in the E-vaccination passport so far, according to the Ministry of Health. 9.6 percent of the population is partially immunized, while 3.3 percent is fully immunized.
