The seven-day incidence of new coronavirus infections has exceeded the important mark of 100. The Robert Koch Institute said Sunday, citing data from public health departments, that the number of new infections per 100,000 residents rose to 103.9 nationwide within seven days. The 100 mark plays a key role in the emergency brake mechanism agreed upon by the federal and state governments for easing or tightening corona requirements.

Within one day, 13,733 new Corona infections were also reported – up from 10,790 cases a week ago Sunday. The seven-day incidence had been 79 a week ago. It recently rebounded after temporarily falling below 60 in February.

The total number of recorded corona infections in Germany since the start of the pandemic reportedly increased to 2,659,516. According to the RKI, 99 new deaths related to coronavirus infection were also recorded within 24 hours. The total number of recorded corona deaths in Germany thus increased to 74,664.
