Corona measures in the eastern region are to be tightened. There are plans to extend the Easter vacations in schools, as well as an “Easter rest” in trade. The rules of entry for commuters will also be tightened.

The increasing load on intensive care units is now leading to stricter Corona measures in the eastern region. According to information from the APA, school vacations will be extended by one week or there will be a switch to distance learning. In addition, the trade will close in a kind of “Easter rest” from Maundy Thursday to Tuesday after Easter – this, however, not for products of daily use.

Entry rules to be tightened
Operational testing is to be extended to once a week if possible. In addition, the entry rules are to be tightened significantly, and the validity of tests for commuters is to be shortened considerably. It is currently one week. There are also plans to extend the obligation to wear an FFP2 mask – which already applies in retail outlets, public transport and official buildings – to indoor areas.

According to reports, Vienna’s Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) as well as Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Grüne) could have imagined even stricter measures such as a longer lockdown. However, the governor of Lower Austria, Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP), in particular, is said to have put the brakes on this.

“East summit” sees situation in hospitals critically
Overall, however, the discussion with Anschober, in which the Chancellor’s Office was also involved, was seen as very constructive. Close cooperation also seems important, because experts at the “East Summit” described the situation at Vienna’s hospitals as “extremely critical.” In Vienna’s City Hall on Wednesday, it was also not ruled out to tighten the measures in a second step, at least in the federal capital. According to APA information, this will be considered if the infection figures continue to rise as strongly as before.

How the measures now look in detail, is to be announced officially only in the evening.
